The DGFT Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is primarily required for transactions on the DGFT website for license applications and return filings. Whether it is branch addition, IEC renewal, or submitting licence requests, an IEC-based DSC is mandatory. DGFT DSC is generally issued as a Class 2 or Class 3 Digital Signature designed specifically for EXIM (Import–Export) organizations holding a valid Import Export Code (IEC). It can only be issued to an organization and comes with a signing certificate.
Having a valid IEC Code is compulsory to obtain a DGFT DSC.

Who Can Buy DGFT DSC
Any organization that possesses a valid IEC Code is eligible to purchase a DGFT DSC. It can be issued to proprietorships, partnerships, private limited companies, LLPs, and limited companies.
An authorized representative can apply on behalf of the organization by submitting the necessary documents and completing the verification process. The organization must hold an IEC issued by the DGFT department and should also have the WTO IEC certificate.
Why DGFT Requires Digital Signature
EXIM organizations are allowed to apply for licenses online and submit supporting documents electronically through the DGFT portal (dgft.gov.in). Since a digital signature certificate guarantees the authenticity and integrity of the submitted documents, DGFT has made IEC-based DSCs mandatory for all online submissions.
Therefore, every EXIM organization must use a valid digital signature to perform transactions and filings on the DGFT website.
